Should I Be Taking a Daily Baby Aspirin?
If you have cardiovascular risk factors, it has been routine for us to take a daily baby aspirin to help prevent a heart attack or stroke. Then, in 2016, new recommendations came out for aspirin use in the prevention of cardiovascular events and colorectal cancer. This made us doctors reassess our blanket recommendations for aspirin use.
Once again, new recommendations are out regarding the use of aspirin for prevention. Here is a link to the most up-to-date recommendations. Please review these recommendations in detail.
If you have any cardiovascular risk factors or take a daily aspirin, we will be reviewing this at your next visit with Dr. Guy. It is important that we take your specific scenario and weigh each of the pros and cons. Some of those will include calculating your 10-year cardiovascular disease risk as well as assessing your risk of bleeding.
